Endorphins are the natural feel good, pain killing, euphoric neurotransmitters released in the brain during exercise, excitement, pain, consumption of spicy food, orgasm and LOVE. The word endorphin comes from the two words “endogenous morphine”; endogenous means coming from within and morphine being the natural, euphoric, pain killing and relaxation inducing opiate found in the opium poppy papaver somniferum. I believe the release of endorphin in the brain is the key to all human emotions and actions on this Earth including the most devastating and destructive.
Anything that brings excitement, even if it endangers one’s self and others (skydiving, base jumping, fighting) or even causes injury to one’s self (tattoos, piercing, body modifications) releases endorphins in the brain. Perhaps some of the most detrimental and destructive activities we see humans partake in are all just last ditch attempts to get their brains to produce endorphins. We now live in an interconnected global society with advanced technology where destructive and violent behaviour can have massive repercussions on the people and all living things on this planet.
Perhaps some people have a chemical deficiency of endorphins or their brains don’t produce enough of it, leading to destructive behaviour. A lack of endorphins creates a dysphoric state characterized by an unpleasant mood with sadness, anxiety, irritability, restlessness and pain which can quickly lead to a variety of illnesses, stressors and disorders that proceed to an increased risk of destructive behaviour including; abuse, deception, assault, murder and suicide.
Typically a person in a dysphoric mood or pain will lash out and consequently create pain and dysphoria for others. People that feel good try to do good and make others feel good as well. Most doctors and people due to television commercials and pharmaceutical advertising now believe depression is caused by a lack of serotonin and prescribe selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) aka anti-depressants. Over 30% of the population of North America is on one form of anti-depressant or another. Depression and pain is actually caused by a lack of endorphin and opiates/opioids were used to treat depression up until the early 1960s since they are simply external versions of endorphin.
After the findings of McMaster University’s Project GENOA (genetics of opioid addiction) we may find that endorphin deficiency is similar to diabetes in that it requires opiate medicine in order for that individual to live and function similar to a diabetic taking daily insulin. One day we will create Endorphin Reuptake Inhibitors (ERIs) to replace damaging SSRIs along with once a month long acting endorphin, opiate injections or patches consisting of mixtures of endorphins, opiates and opioids with Morphine Propionate, Cypionate, Enanthate and Undecanoate. This mixture would have little to no side effects, is non toxic and would have vast benefits to human physical and mental health to those that are suffering.
We could begin to create paradise on this Earth by first creating it in our minds where it can then spring outwards into our words, actions and behaviour. Endorphins and their exogenous brothers known as opiates and opioids can eliminate pain, suffering, dysphoria and increase happiness, joy, comfort, kindness, empathy and sociability. It has been discovered that morphine is a neurotransmitter and is produced naturally within our own brains making it both an endogenous / exogenous opiate. Endorphins also allow bears and other animals to hibernate as it slows the heart rate, blood pressure, respiration and metabolism, making it the perfect substance for long term space travel or high stress environments like cities, work, nations at war or natural disasters.
The slowing of the metabolism would be especially helpful in communities that experience food shortages and rationing. These substances also stop cough, diarrhea and help with post traumatic stress disorder, sleep difficulties and can calm and bring relief to those suffering both physically and mentally and would be ideal to people that live and work in disaster areas of all kinds. Opium would bring great relief to many people in developing nations whose main cause of death is complications from prolonged bouts of diarrhea and pneumonia. It is still served to this day in many societies at funerals to help deal with the psychological trauma caused by the death of a loved one.
All opiates and opioids must be re-legalized and uncontrolled, then made easily and cheaply available for all like they were 100 years ago with unadulterated codeine, morphine, diactylmorphine and all variations thereof and thousands of years prior with opium. This could be done by first legalizing the poppy crop in Afghanistan and all over the world, then making all opiates/opioids on the shelf medicine globally. This would provide opium as medicine to developing nations with high death rates due to diarrhea, pneumonia and diseases that cause pain, cough, high blood pressure and heart attack. Once completely legalized, unrestricted and unscheduled humanity could conduct further research without red tape to create completely safe, longer acting variations of opioids with minimal to zero side effects. Just like insulin is given to diabetics without prescription, opiate/opioid substances need to be made easily available without prescription to those that are suffering physically, emotionally or have trouble dealing with stress and the ensuing diseases, disorders, high blood pressure, heart attacks and aneurysms. Once this is done our world will immediately begin to flourish. It is not a legal issue, but a medical / societal saving action.
